Maintenance

Every septic system is specifically designed for each dwelling and for the usage of water and accumulation of human waste on that property. In order to maintain and prolong the life your septic system, here are some suggestions.

It Is NOT Recommended to Dispose of the Following Products in Your Septic System:

  • Bleach
  • Condoms
  • Solvents
  • Wax Removers
  • Drain Openers
  • Coffee Grinds
  • Cigarette Butts
  • Toilet Cleaners
  • Sanitary Napkins, tampons and applicators
    • Cooking Grease & Oil
    • Washing Machine Lint
    • Excessive Toilet Paper
    • Daily Toilet Sanitizers & Fresheners
    • Polishes
    • Cat Litter
    • Small Toys
    • Dirt & Sand
    • Dental Floss
      • Cleaning Compounds
      • Paints & Varnishes
      • Baby & Adult Wipes
      • Sink & Tub Cleaners
      • Automotive Oil & Grease
      • Excessive Food Particles
      • Excessive Use of Detergents
      • Antifreeze & Gasoline

        Perform Proper Tank Maintenance

Should you use any of these household products in excess, a live bacterium additive may be necessary to stimulate the bacteria growth needed to exist in your tank. It is suggested to scrape all food particles and debris into a garbage receptacle and use a reasonable amount of toilet paper. In general, if something cannot not pass through your body it should not go in to your septic system.

If You Encounter a Slow Drain, Gurgling Toilet or a Backup:

First check to see if you can dislodge what may be causing the plug. Plunge toilets only if necessary. Stop running water (washing machine, dishwasher, and toilet flushing) let the system rest.

The tank could be filled with excess water with no place to go. Usually in a few hours you can start to run water sparingly and within a day or 2 your system will be able to handle the daily demand of water usage.

Should the problem persist, contact Lakeland Septic Co. Inc. for suggestions or service. It is recommended that you have your system maintained on a regular basis by someone trained in septage removal.
